Ancient Rome has many different contributions. One of their contributions was the Architecture. The Romans learned how to use the arch, the vault, and the dome to build huge structures. The Romans were also the first ones to make a widespread use of concrete. They made concrete by mixing broken stone with sand. They also had the alphabet, which we still use today. The first two letters were alpha and beta.
The Romans also had many legacies. One of their legacies was the Christian Religion. In 1764 C.E., long after the Roman Empire as gone, a young Englishman named Edward Gibbon visited Rome. He saw the ruins of ancient buildings, like the Roman Colosseum. He marveled at Roman statues and the remains of aqueducts and bridges. Gibbon wondered to himself, “How did such a great empire come to an end?” He decided to write a book on the Roman Empire. More than 20 years later, he started to write the book. His work filled up six books. He called the book The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire.
